BMW brings in Guintoli to win EWC title
Le BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team vient d’intréger Sylvain Guintoli à son équipage pour le Championnat du Monde d’Endurance de la FIM 2024, se rendant “prêt à lutter pour le titre” selon Mac Bongers, le directeur de BMW Motorrad Motorsport.
BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team has added Sylvain Guintoli to its 2024 FIM Endurance World Championship line-up in a move that makes the squad “ready to fight for the title”, according to Marc Bongers, the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director.

Âgé de 41 ans, Guintolo rejoint le BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, basé en Belgique, en provenance du Yoshimura SERT Motul avec lequel il a remporté le titre EWC en 2021.
Le Français sera associé aux pilotes de longue date du BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team que sont Illya Mykhalchyk (Ukraine) et Markus Reiterberger (Allemagne). Il fera ses débuts sur la BMW M 1000 RR n°37 de sa nouvelle équipe lors des 24 Heures Motos, manche d’ouverture de l’EWC 2024 au Mans, du 18 au 21 avril.
“Après une saison 2023 très fructueuse, avec des arrivées sur le podium des trois courses de 24 heures et une troisième place au classement général final [du championnat] pour le BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, nous sommes désormais prêts à nous battre pour le titre”, a dit Bongers. “En Markus et Ilya, nous avons deux pilotes réguliers du BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team qui ont fait leurs preuves, font partie de ce projet depuis les premiers stades de son développement et ont joué un rôle significatif dans les succès obtenus pour l’instant.”
“Sylvain est la nouvelle recrue parfaite. Peu de pilotes apportent autant d’expérience de la scène internationale et, ce qui est crucial, du FIM EWC. À travers son rôle au sein de l’équipe d’essais du BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, il est aussi familier de tous les détails de la BMW M 1000 RR.”
Bongers a aussi salué Jérémy Guarnoni, parti chez KM99 après deux saisons avec le BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team dont le moment fort a été la victoire aux 24H SPA EWC Motos 2022. “Nous remercions Jérémy Guarnoni, qui a fait un excellent travail durant deux années, et lui souhaitons le meilleur pour l’avenir”, a-t-il déclaré.
Et Werner Daemen, team manager du BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, d’ajouter :
“Je suis fan de Sylvain Guintoli depuis son passage en World Superbike et qu’il a été champion du monde [en 2014]. Je l’ai aussi observé lors des courses du FIM EWC, et j’ai toujours dit qu’il était l’un des meilleurs pilotes en piste. C’est une chance pour notre équipe de bénéficier de sa grande expérience, pour les autres pilotes autant que les techniciens dans divers domaines. Les différents constructeurs, les différentes marques de pneus – il connaît tout. J’espère qu’il pourra nous aider à franchir le prochain palier sur le chemin du titre mondial. Je suis impatient de travailler avec lui et je vois cela comme une grande chance.”
Guintoli, 41, joins Belgium-based BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team from Yoshimura SERT Motul, with whom he won the EWC title in 2021.
The Frenchman will partner with long-term BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team riders Illya Mykhalchyk from Ukraine and Germany’s Markus Reiterberger. Guintoli will make his EWC debut on the #37 BMW M 1000 RR in the 24 Heures Motos, the opening round of the 2024 EWC at Le Mans, France, from 18-21 April.
“After a very successful 2023 season, with podium finishes in all three 24-hour races and third place in the overall ranking for the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, we are now ready to fight for the title,” Bongers said. ‘In Markus and Ilya we have two proven regular riders in the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team who have been part of the project since the early development stages and have played a significant role in the successes achieved so far.
“Sylvain is the perfect new addition. Few riders bring as much experience on the international stage and, crucially, in the FIM EWC. Through his role in the BMW Motorrad Motorsport test team, he is also familiar with all the details of the BMW M 1000 RR.”
Bongers also praised Jérémy Guarnoni, who switches to KM99 after two seasons riding for BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team when victory in the 2022 24H SPA EWC Motos was a highlight. “We thank Jérémy Guarnoni, who has done an excellent job for two years, and we wish him all the best for the future,” Bongers said.

“I have been a fan of Sylvain Guintoli since he was riding in World Superbikes and became world champion [in 2014]. I was also watching him this year during the FIM EWC races and I always said that he is one of the best riders out there on track. It’s a chance for us as a team to benefit from his wealth of experience, for the riders as well as for the technicians in the different areas. Different manufacturers, different tyre brands – he knows everything. I hope that he can help us to make the next step on our way to the world championship title. I’m excited to work with him and I see it as a big chance.”
