WHY EWC STAR GUINTOLI WILL DO DOUBLE TIME IN 2024
Sylvain Guntoli is set for a busy 2024 after becoming a BMW Motorrad Motorsport factory rider.
Le vainqueur du Championnat du Monde FIM d’Endurance 2021 ne se contentera pas de disputer les quatre épreuves de la saison EWC au sein de l’équipe BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, comme annoncé le mois dernier, il participera également au développement de la BMW M 1000 RR.
Avec le Britannique Bradley Smith, un autre pilote ayant une expérience récente de l’EWC, Guintoli a rejoint l’équipe d’essais nouvellement formée par BMW Motorrad Motorsport.
« C’est fantastique que la richesse de leur expérience renforce notre projet », a déclaré Christian Gonschor, directeur technique de BMW Motorrad Motorsport. « Sylvain apporte ses connaissances approfondies acquises au cours de nombreuses années dans les championnats du monde de Superbike et d’Endurance, où il a également remporté des titres, ainsi qu’en MotoGP. Bradley complète parfaitement ces connaissances grâce à sa grande expérience en tant que pilote de course et d’essai en MotoGP. Ils sont les pilotes parfaits pour notre nouvelle équipe d’essais, qui se concentre uniquement sur le travail de test sur la piste, indépendamment des engagements en course ».
Marc Bongers, directeur de BMW Motorrad Motorsport, a déclaré : « Je suis fier que, sous la direction de Chris, nous ayons réuni une équipe aussi forte pour soutenir nos engagements en WorldSBK et FIM EWC avec l’équipe de test en arrière-plan. C’est aussi une indication claire de l’engagement fort de BMW Motorrad dans le sport automobile. L’apport significatif de l’équipe d’essais a déjà fait ses preuves ces derniers mois et nous sommes convaincus que cette structure contribuera au succès de l’entreprise ».
Guintoli a ajouté : « Je suis très heureux de rejoindre le projet d’usine BMW Motorrad Motorsport WorldSBK en tant que pilote d’essai, le projet est très excitant et je suis impatient d’y apporter mon expérience. J’ai hâte de commencer et de profiter de la BMW M 1000 RR. »
The 2021 FIM Endurance World Championship winner will not only contest the four-event EWC season as part of the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team line-up, as announced last month, he will also assist with the development of the BMW M 1000 RR.
Along with Briton Bradley Smith, another rider with recent EWC experience, Guintoli has joined BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s newly formed test team in a highly-anticipated move.
“It’s fantastic that their wealth of experience strengthens our project,” Christian Gonschor, BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s Technical Director said. “Sylvain brings extensive knowledge from many years in the Superbike and Endurance World Championships, where he also secured the titles, as well as from MotoGP. Bradley complements this knowledge perfectly with his extensive experience as a race and test rider in MotoGP. They are the perfect riders for our new test team, which focuses solely on testing work on the track, independent of race commitments.”
BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Marc Bongers said: “I am proud that, under Chris’s leadership, we have assembled such a strong line-up to support our factory commitments in WorldSBK and FIM EWC with the test team in the background. It is also a clear indication of BMW Motorrad’s strong commitment to motorsport. The significant input provided by the test team has already shown promise in recent months, and we are confident that this structure will contribute to success.”
Guintoli added: “I am very happy to join the BMW Motorrad Motorsport WorldSBK factory project as a test rider, the project is very exciting and I am looking forward to bring my experience into it. I can’t wait to get started and enjoy the BMW M 1000 RR.”
